  6. The main aim in Studs Lonigan is to create a dark and moody atmosphere, and whilst it succeeds in doing so in the opening scenes, the film soon falls into a trite and flat rhythm. It ends up completely dull in every aspect, never getting past its cheapness and never once genuinely grabbing the attention of the viewer.
