The History of Whitesboro. Whitesboro named in honor of Captain Ambrose White. Captain White was born October 25, 1811 in Ohio but he spent most of his early days in Illinois, at Galena and on down state near Springfield. When the Black Hawk War broke out in 1833 he was called to the front to defend the pioneers.
History. The area was once known as "Wolfpath". The first settler in the area was Robert Diamond, but the settlement of Wolfpath began with the arrival of Ambrose B. White and his family in 1848.

White, a black Congressman from North Carolina whose company purchased 2,000 acres of land to help start the community.
Sep 1, 1995 · The Butterfield Overland Mail route used White's Westview Inn as a stop on its trail from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast from 1858 to 1861. Fourteen families lived there by 1861. A post office, under the name Whitesborough, began operations in 1860.
