Jun 7, 2023 · The Jones Loop H-Bar and Surly Moloko are both popular "alt bars" offering loads of hand positions. Which one should you choose? Here's a side-by-side comparison.
Sep 5, 2024 · At first glance, the Surly Moloko and Jones Loop handlebars have a lot in common. For one thing, if you’re new to the world of “alt bars” you might think they both look pretty weird!More importantly, the Loop H-Bar and Moloko are both designed to offer a natural wrist angle and multiple ergonomic ha...
May 1, 2024 · Surly’s take on the Jones bar is the Moloko, with a touch less sweep and two prongs for extra hand positions – which has proved surprisingly useful. Made from stout steel, it also offers a loop into which nests a stowage compartment (see below).
Both bars are great for bikepacking - the forward strut allows bags to hang down without interfering with the cables. The back-sweep on the Jones is pretty severe. It makes for a nice cruiser bike, but I prefer to flatter sweep of the Moloko, especially for longer distance.
Aug 22, 2024 · The Jones Loop H-Bar is the original alt bar. It uses a dramatic 45 degree backsweep for a comfy wrist angle while preserving lots of space for bags and gadgets. Its biggest competitor, the Surly Moloko, goes for less radical backsweep and adds mini bullhorns for yet another hand position.
I have a set of Jones Bars on my mountain bike, I love them. The one thing that is a challenge is more hand positions and mounting gear in the front. Crazy Bars address this while still keeping the 45-degree position, which is basically identical to Jones-bars. The only downside is that they use 25.4mm instead of the more common 31.8 clamp.

I found the Moloko bars to be a good fit in their forward position (just enough grip to be comfortable and stable), and also the rear (wide) position since it is not as long as the Jones bars and felt a bit less like I was steering a boat.
