    NOOOOOOO!

    First Brock and now Pablo!

"Ashy Slashy" was a great, eventful episode. In fact, elements of it really felt like a season finale, or in the very least a penultimate season episode. Both Tommy and Lacey bit the dust while Ash, temporarily (at least as far as we knew), became Baal's pet, chasing after Pablo in order to "destroy the book." It was all a ruse however as Ash was just playing possum and resorting to his "pet tracker" plan from two episodes back.

Sure, you can fault our hero for "acting" brainwashed while Linda's daughter got captured and turned, when he could have done more to protect her, but I'm chalking that up to Ash thinking of the "greater good." I know, it's a tough swallow, but overall this episode really clicked. I don't know what that ritual was at the end, or how Pablo knew what to do in order to thwart Baal, but it figures that the knowledge would just be inside him somewhere. Now we just need to know what the poor bastard died for.

What did Baal have against the book? Why did he want it destroyed? And now that it is gone -- with Pablo's death -- what happens next? Baal's not around to reap the rewards of its destruction so...is everything hunky dory now? Pablo getting ripped in half aside, of course. I guess we still need to know what Ash's big family secret is, right?

Wrapping up here, I very much enjoyed that it was explained why Linda was the who visited Ash last week inside his delusion. I made mention, previously, that his dad would have been a better choice, but this week we learned that Baal didn't make up the nightmare out of thin air. He used a real abandoned hospital and the real people inside it (guards, junkies, etc) as the backbone for his tricks.

"Ashy Slashy" tragically saw one of the show's core team members -- an original Ghostbeater -- fall in the name of defeating evil. This was a fun, focused episode that featured Ash outsmarting a demon boss known for his wit and cunning while Kelly had a knock-down, drag-out fight with a pest of a puppet.

  3. I think to live in Ash's world you have to be one-part Viking (accepting that your fate is Ragnarok and that the best thing you can hope for is a good death) and one-part Vaudevillian (to keep your spirits up and swim in the formal flow of this ridiculous and dark place - if you don't have an entertaining personality in this world, you don't ...
