The Animals in War Memorial is a war memorial, in Hyde Park, London, commemorating the countless animals that have served and died under British military command throughout history. It was designed by English sculptor David Backhouse and unveiled in November 2004 by Anne, Princess Royal .
Images of the many different animals used in 20th century conflicts are depicted in bas-relief on the inside of the longer section of wall. On the outside of this wall a line of ghostly silhouettes is carved, representing the animals lost in the conflicts.
Elephants, camels, oxen, bullocks, cats, canaries, even glow worms — all these creatures, great and small, contributed their strength, their energy and their lives in times of war and conflict to the British, Commonwealth and Allied forces during the 20th century.

The Animals in War memorial is located on Park Lane, near Hyde Park in London. It was unveiled in November 2004, to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, and commemorates the contribution of animals to conflicts that happened during the 20th century. The memorial was designed by sculptor David Backhouse.
Animals in War. War memorials do not only commemorate the men and women who lost their lives in conflict. The contribution of animals to the war effort during both World Wars is increasingly recognised and these materials help young people understand some of these contributions.
