Lane Tech, a newer Academic Center, continues to close in on the most competitive Academic Center, Whitney Young. Composite Whitney Young scores for 2016-2017 were 25 points higher than those for Lane Tech. For Tier 4 applicants, the difference was only 9 points.
Five years ago, Lane Tech opened an Academic Center (LTAC), which offers advanced programs for 7 th and 8 th grade students as well as a guaranteed seat at Lane Tech High School. Lane Tech is the only Selective Enrollment High School on the north side with an Academic Center.
The computer science department at Lane is one of the largest and most highly-regarded in the CPS system. All students are required to take at least one year of computer science so that they are digitally literate.
