A resit is a further attempt to pass a module. The mark you get for a resit assessment is capped at the pass mark for the assessment. Assessments on Level 7 modules are capped at 50% while assessments on modules at level 6 or lower are capped at 40%. The uncapped mark is shown on your transcript.
A retake is when you study a whole module for a second time because you have taken it previously but have not passed it yet. As you will be retaking the module in a different academic year, the assessment is likely to be different. You will not be able to retake a module if you’ve already passed it.

(For postgraduate modules (SCQF Level 11), you must achieve a minimum overall mark of 50%.) Modules either have a single assessment (eg an essay, a report or an exam), or they may have several assessment components.
