William Tyndale (/ ˈ t ɪ n d əl /; [1] sometimes spelled Tynsdale, Tindall, Tindill, Tyndall; c. 1494 – October 1536) was an English Biblical scholar and linguist who became a leading figure in the Protestant Reformation in the years leading up to his execution.
Tyndale produced a partial edition in 1525, with a full edition of the New Testament in 1526. He produced revised editions in 1534 and 1536. Tyndale published the Pentateuch in 1530. The translations of other books followed, but many have not survived in their original forms.
Tyndale's Answer opens with a short epistle to the reader in the spirit of St. Paul. Unwilling to follow More's theological lead, Tyndale announces six themes in his foundational essay: Church, Scripture, faith, the papacy, the Fathers and sacred signs.
The Tyndale Bible usually refers to the translations of various books of the Bible by William Tyndale in the 1500s.
