- We must thirst for God. For the deer, they have the natural instinct to look for water and drink it. They don’t need to think whether they need to drink or not.
- We must have a strong yearning for God. Have you tried running a marathon or working outside on a hot sunny day? You start feeling that your mouth is starting to dry, your lips are starting to crack, and it seems there’s a thorn in your throat, there’s only one thing you want to do: drink that cold, refreshing water, right?
- We need to be ready to make sacrifices. If you have been in the desert, you know that the source of drinkable water is the same place where a lot of predators come to wait for their prey.
- God is our Sustainer. Sometimes, we forget that the Source of our blessings is God. Oftentimes, when we are comfortable, that we always get what we want, and all our needs are met, we forget God.
Jun 13, 2021 · 1 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? The Psalmist describes himself as a thirsty deer panting for flowing waters. I don’t see many deer around here.

He is not thirsting mainly for escape from his enemies or for their destruction.
Jul 13, 2020 · As the Psalm concludes, the difficult challenge is repeated. But this time, the author preaches hope to his soul: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.” Psalm 42 To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.
Jun 1, 2008 · An Overview of Psalm 42. The way I would like to take us into Psalm 42 is to give an overview, and then show six things that this godly man does in his spiritual depression — six things that I think are meant to shape how we deal with our own seasons of darkness.
From this Psalm, God reveals seven lessons for battling discouragement. These include: (1) seeking God, (2) worship with others, (3) hope, (4) remembrance, (5) trust, (6) authentic prayers, and (7) persevering patience. First, in his sadness, the psalmist cried out that his soul thirsted for the living God.

Jun 23, 2021 · Psalm 42: When Hope is Hard to Find. BY STEPHEN POSEY. Psalm 42 is one of the most well known Psalms of all time, mostly due to the visceral, moving imagery of its opening verse: “As the deer pants for the flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” Maybe you’ve sung those words before?
