The Chow Chow is a spitz-type of dog breed originally from Northern China. [2] The Chow Chow is a sturdily built dog, square in profile, with a broad skull and small, triangular, erect ears with rounded tips. The breed is known for a very dense double coat that is either smooth or rough.
Chows are deep chested dogs that have a well sprung ribcage powerful loins and a strong level back. Their hindquarters are powerful with well-muscled first and second thighs. They have very cat-like feet being small and round with dogs standing well up on their toes. A Chow's tail is set high which dogs carry them well over their backs.
The Chow Chow can be traced back almost 2,000 years when they were bred as hunting and guard dogs in China. Known for their cute, teddy bear-like appearance and a unique blue-black tongue, the Chow Chow is both independent but also very loyal.
