- Since its inception in 1971, the February admission program has offered students the flexibility to have a gap semester to recharge, reflect, and prepare for their four-year college experience. Febs often spend their gap semester pursuing an interest, holding a job, traveling, visiting with family members, and/or engaging in a service project.

There's also a strong musical culture on campus, with numerous student-led a cappella groups, bands, and ensembles. Traditions are rich at Middlebury. A classic example is the Winter Carnival, which has been a college fixture since 1923. This event, usually organized in February, features fireworks, a parade, ice sculptures, and a ski carnival.

AMIGOS de las Américas
AMIGOSinspires and builds young leaders through collaborative community development and cross-cultural summer and gap year programs in Central and South America. Accredited by the Gap Year Association, the AMIGOS Gap Year Program provides immersion and leadership experiences. Students complete an internship with a local organization, live with a host family, implement a sustainable service project, and go on excursions to amazing local spots.

National Outdoor Leadership School
NOLSis a nonprofit educational organization teaching technical outdoor skills, leadership, and environmental ethics. Courses range from a few weeks to an academic year in locations from Wyoming to Mexico to India.

With over 30 years of social work expertise, Marion Taylor ’79 provides personalized advice to student “gappers” hoping to take a gap semester or year through Taylor the Gap. Gap year opportunities include the following: volunteer/community service, academic/postgraduate study, work/internships, travel/language immersion, environmental/conservation programs, and wilderness/adventure programs, all of which are available both overseas as well as nationally.

Mar 29, 2015 · The Feb program gives us a chance to get some life experience under our belt or try something new before we’re pigeon-holed into choosing a career. I don’t think of it as second-rate admission, rather, I feel like the admissions officers saw in us a drive to take risks and make the most out of life.
Apr 9, 2020 · Unfortunately, I was picked among 5% of students to be a part of the Middlebury “Feb” class, where I begin school in February of 2021 and graduate in February 2025. I am interested in finance and medicine. I also don’t have anything planned out to do during my gap between now and next February.
