St Catharine's College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. [2] Founded in 1473 as Katharine Hall , it adopted its current name in 1860. The college is nicknamed " Catz ".
St Catharine's College was founded in 1473 by Robert Woodlark. He had spent nearly twenty years buying up tenements in what is now Queens’ Lane until he had a site large enough to accommodate the little hall which he called ‘Saynt Kateryns Hall of Cambridge’.
Named in honour of St Catharine of Alexandria, the college has grown from its modest beginnings to become known for its strong performance. Founded in 1473 by Robert Woodlark, then Provost of King’s College, St Catharine’s College is one of the historic colleges at the University of Cambridge.
