South Shields (/ ʃ iː l z /) is a coastal town in South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England; it is on the south bank of the mouth of the River Tyne. The town was once known in Roman times as Arbeia and as Caer Urfa by the Early Middle Ages. In 2021 it had a population of 75,337.

May 15, 2020 · Marine Park is one of our favourite places in Shields - there is the more formal gardens of North Marine Park and the more child-friendly South Marine Park. Expect lots of space to run around, two playgrounds (for various age ranges), a boating lake with Swan Padalos to hire, a mini train, ice cream kiosk, cafe and more.
With a rich history dating back to the Stone Age and equally notable geology due to its distinctive coastline of Magnesium limestone cliffs, there’s a lot more to South Shields than may first meet the eye.
