Romeo reveals himself, agreeing to forsake the name Romeo if he can have her love. Juliet warns him that, as a Montague, he’ll be killed if he’s spotted with her, but Romeo doesn’t care. After much discussion, the two swear their love for each other and agree to be married.
Scene 2, the balcony scene (so-called because it is often staged with Juliet on a balcony, though the stage directions suggest only that she is at a window above Romeo), is one of the most famous scenes in all of theater, owing to its beautiful and evocative poetry.
Act 2 Scene 2 – Key Scene. At the start of this scene, Romeo hides beneath Juliet’s balcony and overhears her talking about him. He eventually comes out and they talk to each other. They declare their love for each other and arrange to meet the next day when Romeo has promised to marry Juliet.
Detailed Summary. Romeo, still hiding from his friends, sees a light in a nearby window turn on and Juliet step onto her balcony. Romeo says that he is looking east, and that "Juliet is the sun." He encourages the sun to rise and vanquish the jealous moon, and wishes Juliet would abandon her maiden attire and throw it away.
