The castle was then part of the property of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland, and it is regarded as the most valuable of the palace-garden complexes in the eastern borderlands (Kresy Wschodnie) of the former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. [2][3] Today, it is part of the Lviv National Art Gallery.
Pidhaitsi is a small town with a population of about 2,700 people located in the Ternopil region of Ukraine, 68 km south-west of Ternopil. This town, first mentioned in 1463, has a rich history. During the Second World War, it was almost completely destroyed.

Some of the precious sculptures are now in the gardens of St. Petersburg. The castle became the sanatorium for people with tuberculosis.
A well-known local activist promoting Jewish culture was Michał Weichert (1890–1967). Born in Pidhaitsi, he was the director of a Yiddish Jewish theatre, a theatre critic and historian, and the founder of one of the first Jewish permorming arts schools.
