- Old Nan is the oldest person at Winterfell. She came to the castle to nurse a Brandon Stark; she does not recall which one, only that his mother had died birthing him. Jun 12, 2014 · Old Nan has been in Winterfell for multiple generations, and it is not clear exactly how old she really is. It's stated in awoiaf wiki that she came to Winterfell to wet-nurse a previous Brandon Stark (which one is not known).

Old Nan is an elderly woman living in Winterfell. She is a retired servant of House Stark known for her tale-telling abilities. She has entertained the children of Eddard and Catelynwith stories throughout their childhoods.

Meaning that Old Nan herself was born no later than 207 AC, which means that she was no younger than 90 years old when the books start, in 297 AC. Of course, it's possible that she's older than that.

Bran sees this in a vision. It might be showing Old Nan kissing Ser Duncan. Since Hodor is related to her and as tall as Duncan, Nan might have had a baby from Duncan. The child would eventually be father/grandfather to Hodor.
Feb 7, 2015 · Old Nan is a prisoner at the Dreadfort along with the remaining hostages from Winterfell. GRRM has stated that Old Nan is the only narrator you can trust completely. Therefore I suspect she will return before the end of the series to do some explaining.
