An absolute classic. How is Shibata the injured one here when the entire match was just Okada dying repeatedly. My all time favorite match. I have a hard time deciding between this or Shingo vs Mochizuki from 2015 as my personal favorite match of the 2010s.
Despite the fact that the crowd is largely behind Shibata in this match, not a single person is disappointed once Okada beats him. Then you get Shibata, this absolute ass-kicking weaponized machine of a human being, just completely battering the world champ.
Aug 8, 2023 · From the moment he walked out from behind the curtain, the crowd was in the palm of his hand, serenading him with “SHI-BA-TA!” chants and cheering desperately for him to win the IWGP Heavyweight title from the massively popular Okada.
Shibata pretty much dominated Okada is almost every facet of the match: wrestling, striking, submissions. Okada's wildcard was the Rainmaker. If he was able to out last Shibata and land a strong enough Rainmaker, he sneak out a win.
