CBS Theatrical Films was the second and short-lived film production arm of CBS, after Cinema Center Films and before CBS Films. The network begun theatrical films operation in 1979, headed by Donald March, and turned it into CBS Theatrical Films on December 2, 1980.
In 1979 CBS launched a new theatrical films division, which was officially named CBS Theatrical Films the following year. While this was in operation, CBS entered into a joint venture with Columbia Pictures and HBO called Tri-Star Pictures .
In 1967, the CBS television network decided to produce their own films for theatrical release through their production unit Cinema Center Films (CCF), which were released through National General. National General also acquired Sy Weintraub 's Banner Productions in 1967 which was producing Tarzan films and the TV series . [2]
