In Java Edition, the End is saved in the same way normal worlds are, in the DIM1 subdirectory of the world save. Deleting the DIM1 directory resets the End, including all player-made changes.
On Windows 10, the player can set their render distance to a maximum of 72 chunks (1152 blocks) without editing the game files, making the outer islands visible from the main island.

Dragons begin to spawn after you complete the quest called "Dragon Rising". It is the 4th quest in Act I of the main quest. Therefore, dragons can spawn pretty early in the game if you simply do the main quest. The 1st quest is "Unbound" which is basically escaping Helgen.
If you´ve slept in a bed somewhere in the overworld, then you´ll spawn near that bed when you go through the portal. The egg is at your original spawn point, where you entered your world for the very first time.

Feb 19, 2013 · The Ender Dragon actually does appear in the peaceful difficulty. I tested it in Creative mode and Survival mode. You actually don't need to go into a difficulty other than peaceful. You can trade 7-13 emeralds with for 1 Eye of Ender with a Priest Villager.
