Chapter 4: Trials in the Toy Box
Welcome to the Toy Box. You will find yourself in front of Blue Station. Eventually, you will be able to use a train to travel between the Toy Box's four stations -- but the train is not operating right now.
Since the train isn't operating right now, there are only two ways to go from here --right or left. Let's go left first. You'll find yourself in an area with a black Shy Guy protecting a treasure chest. Challenge him to a fight. Careful, this is a tough one. This shy guy causes a lot of damage and has 50 HP. Use Lullaby or a similar sleep spell to win the battle. As a reward for the difficult fight, you receive the Power Plus Badge. Equip it to raise your jump and hammer attack powers by 1. There are also other Shy Guys running around. You can either avoid them or defeat them. They shouldn't be any trouble, though the Jester Shy Guys (7 HP) can be a pain with their dizzyness attacks.
In the next room, you will encounter some of the thieves you met earlier in Toad Town. Take them out to get the items they're holding, such as the Calculator, Cake Mix and a Mushroom. There are red, yellow and blue Shy Guys -- but you don't need to defeat all of them as only the Calculator is a key item.
Go back to the entrance room and continue on to the right. Depending on what things you chose as Princess Peach before this chapter started, Kammy will drop off either a Mushroom or an enemy.
Defeat the pink Shy Guys and use the star boxes as catapults by performing a Spin Jump Watch out for the flying Shy Guys.
After grabbing the two Star Pieces, go up on top of the blue house again. Jump over to the right house and let yourself drop to the ground to get past the wall. More Parakarry action. From the wall, jump to the ? Block, then have Parakarry port you over to the right. You need to stand on the blue block to make the jump. The ? Block to the right yields a Thunder Bolt. Move on the right to find whatever item (or enemy, if you're an idiot) Peach suggested Bowser should throw in Mario's way. Open the treasure box to get the Storeroom Key for the Toad Town Shop. Time to leave the Toy Box for now.
Get out the way you came in and bring the Calculator back to the Badge Store owner. You will receive the I Spy Badge as a reward for your help. This cool Badge will alert you whenever there is a hidden panel in an area. If you want to buy some additional badges, leave the area and come back in. The shop will now be open again.
Next, go to the Toad Town Shop and return the Storeroom Key. As a reward, you get to go into the storeroom and take any item you like. You will get the Toy Train, a Volt Shroom, a Dizzy Dial and a Snowman Doll.
Head to Tayce T.'s house. Give the Frying Pan to Tayce and you will receive a Cake in return. By the way, if you want more cakes, just give some Cake Mix to Tayce. Don't check the Cake or eat it. Take it with you to the Toy Box.
If you want, you can take another trip back to Toad Town to return some stolen items.
But that's not all. Show Russ T. the Mystery Note. He will translate it for you: "Hit yellow, green, red, and then blue." Duh. We knew that. Pay another visit to Tayce T. and give her the Cookbook you got from Gourmet Guy. The Cookbook will expand Tayce T.'s cooking abilities. From now on, you can give her two different ingredients for her creations.
Return to the Toy Box once again. Take the train to Red Station.
Use the Heart and S Blocks to the right to refresh and save, then head to the left. If you want some experience points, go to the left and fight the flaming Pyro Guy. After that, jump on the elevator platform and make your way to the left, past the Ferris Wheel. You will arrive in an area with? Blocks and more enemies. There is a hidden panel in between the two ? Blocks, so be sure to jump up right in the middle. You will get the Deep Focus Badge.
Jump on the next elevator platform and walk on top of the blocks to the back of the room. From there, jump on the other platform and use Parakarry to carry you over to the right. A Super Block will let you upgrade another one of your party members to Super-rank. Now continue on to the left and enter the next area.
You will be attacked by a giant ghost with a lantern.
HP: 50 - Attack: 6 - Defense: 0
The trick to beating this spooky foe is to first attack his lantern. Each hit you deal to the lantern will make it shine brighter. After two hits, the room is bright enough for you to see the ghost. You can now attack it directly and cause damage. Watch out, though -- the ghost will try to dim his light and has got some powerful attacks in store. Block whenever you can. Once you have defeated the ghost, you will notice that the lantern actually has a life of its own. Well, kind of. There is someone trapped inside. Hit the lantern with your hammer to free the electric spark Watt.
She will join your party and help you bring light into the dark. You will even be able to see hidden blocks with her help. You will find the first hidden Block right outside this room. Go all the way back to the station (where you will see another hidden block) and exit to the right. You have discovered the secret hideout of the Shy Guys.
Use Bow to blow up the block with the crack in front of you and you will see how shy these Shy Guys really are. Unfazed by the screaming masses, you should go to the right. Spin jump on the small box to get on top of the green block and jump from there to the yellow block. Use Kooper's shell kick ability to make the Shooting Star item to the right drop down to the floor. Beat the Spy Guy and co. blocking the way, then exit to the right.
HP: 30 - Attack: 4 - Defense: 2
Each time you hit the Shy Squad, it will lose not only HP, but also members. Be careful when they attack you, though. Each member hits you once. Once there are no Shy Guys left, the General Guy take charge and brings in Stilt Guys. You can't hit the Stilt Guys with your hammer, but you can jump on their heads and bring them down to earth. The next wave of attackers consists of two Shy Stacks (four Shy Guys on top of each other). After you beat them, the General Guy himself will attack with his machine. You can hit General Guy in two places, the cockpit and the light bulb. After a couple of hits, the light bulb will break. At that point, it's all about attacking the cockpit itself. Jumping attacks aren't very effective, but Mario's hammer and Watt's Electro Dash will do just fine. After a couple of hits, General Guy's machine falls apart and his Shy Guy army retreats. Congratulations, you have freed the fourth Star Spirit: Muskular.
As a thank you for saving him, Muskular will give Mario more star energy and the ability to use the Chill Out Star Spirit Power.
End of Chapter 4.
Time for more Peach Gear Solid. As Peach, you sneak out of your room again. Press the secret button and go through the fire place. Walk across the main hall, avoiding all the guards, into the room on the right. Gourmet Guy will ask you for something to eat and give you the Castle Key. Use the key on the main door in the hall and go downstairs. The ...
To continue on your adventures, head toward the port of Toad Town. Go to the second pier on the left and you will find a blue "floating island" that vaguely resembles a tuna. A quick spin jump on top of the island will confirm your suspicions that this is really a whale - and you will be asked for a small favor. The whale thinks something's bouncin...
When she opened her box (or jar, whatever), all sorts of evil things escaped outside the box, and this is why we have evil in the world now. Then, she closed the box before hope could escape, so that hope remained within the box.
