I should probably preface this review with my own personal history with ER and note that I was a huge fan of the first few seasons. How huge? Well, when I spent a semester of college in Holland, unwilling to wait until I got home, I had my roommate back in Boston send me tapes every few weeks with ER episodes – and my friends and I would then have to get a professor to let us into the classroom that had the only VCR that could play American VHS tapes, where we'd sit and watch all the episodes on that tape in a row late into the night.

Of course that was back in 1996! I had begun to miss episodes here and there by 2000, and stopped watching the show regularly when Carol Hathaway left – returning briefly during Mark Greene's long, sad death. Yes, I was familiar with Abby and Luka, but didn't really know them fully as characters – and the current group of characters are pretty much complete unknowns to me. I have no idea what makes Tony Gates or Samantha Taggart tick.

I returned to the show this past month for the final four episodes – yes, George Clooney, Julianna Margulies and Eriq La Salle appearing along with semi-frequent guest star Noah Wyle (who'd obviously maintained a bigger connection with the show through the years) was something this old school fan couldn't resist.
