Oct 22, 2024 · The Battle of Calth was a major battle of the Horus Heresy, in which the Word Bearers Traitor Legion attempted to exterminate the Ultramarines Legion, on the orders of Warmaster Horus, who anticipated that Guilliman, the Ultramarines' Primarch, would not join his rebellion against the Emperor.
The Ultramarines didn't really take that much damage after Calth and the Shadow Crusade, and as a result spent most of the remaining six years of the Heresy rearming and preparing for a push towards Terra.
Now this may have just been explained in a book I haven't read yet, but what happened between the Betrayal at Calth, where the Ultramarines were decimated down to about 100k marines, and Slaves to Darkness, where they were an unstoppable juggernaut forcing Horus to accelerate his plans?
