The reservoir was located a short way down the hill, between what is now the Angel and Sadler’s Well’s theatre. A system of pipes made from hollowed-out elm trees began to be constructed to take supplies from the reservoir, across the meadows and down through the streets of London.
Nov 24, 2023 · ONE of the world’s leading dance organisations is celebrating 25 years of dance at its Angel building. There have been six different theatres on the Rosebery Avenue site over 340 years, with the current Sadler’s Wells building opening in 1999 after the pre-war building that went before it was pulled down.
Sadler's Wells closed in 1995 and a £54 million building project commenced, largely funded by the National Lottery. Sadler's Wells moved to the Peacock Theatre until 1998, and this West End venue still hosts a programme of dance productions for the company today.
