How did Goku defeat Omega Shenron? Goku defeated Omega Shenron by utilizing the Universal Spirit Bomb, drawing energy from all living beings. This immense power allowed him to vanquish the formidable foe.
The way I interpreted the event was that in order Goku to hold off Omega Shenron's Negative Energy Ball at bay and save the earth; Goku used his lifeforce in order to cancel out the Ball's destructive power, killing him.
After the defeat of Omega Shenron, the original Shenron takes Goku away forever and Goku seemingly becomes one with the Dragon Balls themselves. He is heavily implied to be dead, but the presentation does not match the mechanics of death in Dragon Ball as they are understood.
