Genji is a Damage hero in Overwatch. He is one of the 21 heroes included in the game's release on 24 May 2016.

The cyborg Genji Shimada has made peace with the augmented body he once rejected, and in doing so, he has discovered a higher humanity. While wary of his past, he has acknowledged, and made peace with it. He (almost) constantly wears a mask, as, in his words, "I do not want people to fear me...or pity me."
Genji's sword is a katana named Ryū ichimonji (竜一文字); he maintains it personally and has never allowed anyone else to examine or repair it. It is paired with a traditional wakizashi sheathed horizontally on his lower back. He is proficient in Meikyo Shisui, Kenjutsu, Shurikenjutsu, Omnitsujutsu, and Intonjutsu.

Jun 7, 2019 · So according to the lore, after Hanzo and Genji fought, Genji’s body was severely damaged and needed the help of Overwatch to give him a new one. Their fight, as far as i can see, has always been presented as an ellegant and dramatic duel between brothers, but i have two questions here:
Apr 27, 2018 · Genji wanted to live a life like other kids, when he grew up he refused to become an assasin of the shimada clan. The clan elders ordered Hanzo to kill Genji. Hanzo ended up cutting Genjis vocal cords, along with other inportant pieces of the body. Hanzo also pulled the dragon bois to kill Genji.

As per the wiki, Hanzo went ape on Genji with his sword and left him to die. Genji didn’t want to run the shimada clan with Hanzo and just wanted to have fun. This broke Hanzo’s heart so he abandoned the ways the of the sword in favor of the bow.
