  1. In physics, the Josephson effect is a phenomenon that occurs when two superconductors are placed in proximity, with some barrier or restriction between them. The effect is named after the British physicist Brian Josephson, who predicted in 1962 the mathematical relationships for the current and voltage across the weak link.

  2. Josephson effect, flow of electric current between two pieces of superconducting material separated by a thin layer of insulating material. Superconductors are materials that lose all electrical resistance when cooled below a certain temperature near absolute zero.

  3. Josephson Effects. In addition to the incoherent tunneling of quasiparticles between two superconducting electrodes, there exist the very important and rich effects predicted by Josephson and first observed by Anderson and Rowell. A simple model for the Josephson effect is described by Feynman, and his model is reproduced here.

  4. Josephson junctions can switch states very quickly (as low as 6 picoseconds). Moreover they have very low power consumption and can be packed closely without generating too much heat. The effects are named after Brian Josephson (1940– ), who predicted them theoretically in 1962.

  5. Sep 17, 2019 · Josephson predicted the existence of tunnel currents carried by Cooper pairs for S \ (_L\) -I-S \ (_R\) junctions [1]. A series of phenomena identified as the Josephson effect are associated with this coherent passage of supercurrents [1, 2, 3, 17, 18, 19].

  6. predicted critical current was sufficient to produce a detectable voltage across the junction. This experiment was at one time to be written up in a chapter of my thesis entitled ‘Two Unsuccessful Experiments in Electron Tunnelling between Superconductors’.

  7. Jan 27, 2021 · Alex Braginski revisits beneficial consequences of the Josephson effect for science and economy, with a special focus on the impact of Josephson devices and circuits in many areas of science and in geophysical prospecting for minerals.
