Field loss that resembles glaucomatous defects
- “Outside Normal Limits” or “Borderline” results indicate field loss that resembles glaucomatous defects. For clinicians who only occasionally interpret visual field tests, the GHT is the best marker to determine if a defect appears suspicious for glaucoma.

Jul 15, 2021 · Visual field is reliable, with three adjacent point defects in the superior nasal quadrant, and the glaucoma hemifield test (GHT) is outside normal limits (Figure 9). Here there is good structure-function correlation.
The Glaucoma Hemifield Test compares points in the upper field to corresponding points in the lower field and then interprets the results as (a) "outside normal limits" indicating the upper and lower fields are different and may signify glaucoma, (b) borderline, and (c) within normal limits indicating glaucoma may not exist.
Glaucoma tests can determine whether your optic nerve is damaged, which can affect your vision. Your ophthalmologist may use one or more tests to check for glaucoma and recommend treatment. You can have glaucoma without any symptoms until the later stages.
The color designations are: 1) Green - Within normal limits of the general population for RNFL. 2) Yellow - Borderline for RNFL. 3) Red - Outside normal limits for RNFL and therefore, suggestive of optic nerve damage in representative area.
The GHT is described as “outside normal limits” when differences between a matched pair of corresponding zones exceeds the difference found in 99% of the normal population, or when both members of a pair of zones are more abnormal than 99.5% of the individuals with the normative population.
The change from “within normal limits” to “borderline” on the Glaucoma Hemifield Test means that, at most, there is only a 3% chance that the field is normal. 1 Combined with a pattern standard deviation that has a P value of less than 1% and point clusters (preferably 3) in the abnormal range, the field can be interpreted as abnormal ...
