The Lewis and Clark National Historical Park (including the former Fort Clatsop National Memorial), located in the vicinity of the mouth of the Columbia River, commemorates the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
- Explore outside. There’s so much to enjoy outside the visitor center, including the Fort and a network of trails! Learn about the park by reading interpretive displays as you hike, or enjoy the scenery as you explore the trails between Fort Clatsop and Sunset Beach.
- Visit during non-peak hours. The park hours are from 9 am to 5 pm every day, but our busiest time is between 11 am and 3 pm, and our busiest weeks are late July and early August.
- Bring your pets along for the adventure. Pets are welcome in the park and on the trails! Always keep them leashed and follow park pet guidelines to protect the park and your pet.
- Ask about the museum and films. Our museum and two park films are a great way to learn about the park! Check with a ranger to see when the next film is playing, and if there are any capacity limits in place.

At Fort Rock in present The Dalles, Oregon, two chiefs and fifteen warriors cross the river to visit and share food. They are given peace medals and other gifts, and York dances to the fiddle.
Beyond the fort are multiple water sites and trails that are so peaceful that it makes it easy to picture the history that took place there. There is hiking available if you are interested through stunning trees that are home to much wildlife. Or you can loop around back to the parking lot.
The Lewis and Clark National and State Historic Park (Fort Clatsop) was a stop on a summer tour of Oregon in 2019. There's a small museum about the history of the Fort, a 20 minute film on the half-hour as well as a small gift shop.
