    • Dud Bolt, The Phantom Menace. Aside from the clever play on “deadbolt,” this hapless podracer pilot provides obvious foreshadowing for his particular fate.
    • Sio Bibble, The Phantom Menace. Placating the advances of the insidious Trade Federation, no governor inspires more authority than the man named Bibble.
    • Shu Mai, Attack of the Clones. Out of the nine formidable beings sitting upon Count Dooku’s Separatist Council, only the President of the Commerce Guild shares a name with a traditional pork-filled dumpling.
    • Sweitt Concorkill, Revenge of the Sith. Appearing only once, the esteemed Senator Concorkill enjoyed the privilege of attending an operatic performance of Squid Lake alongside then Supreme Chancellor Palpatine at the Galaxies Opera House.

Jabba the Hutt’s Twi’lek majordomo debuts in Return of the Jedi, greeting C-3PO, R2-D2, and later Luke Skywalker in the crime lord’s palace on Tatooine. The Legends continuity reveals that Fortuna is also a dangerous and ruthless trafficker who kidnapped and enslaved many members of his own species (including the tragic-fated Oola). Bib’s name, how...

Similarly, Naboo’s governor, Sio Bibble, is introduced in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, where he is depicted as a dignified and outspoken leader who puts his life at risk for Queen Amidala and the people of Naboo. Sio Bibble’s name is never said aloud in the film, however, which is for the best, as his surname would make the selfless g...

Of all the corrupt corporate leaders who comprise the Separatist Council, one of the most ruthless of them is Shu Mai of the Commerce Guild, whose murderous greed and unscrupulous history are on par with Nute Gunray and the Trade Federation. Like Bib Fortuna, Shu Mai’s name is more likely to inspire hunger than fear, as it will no doubt remind view...

A death stick dealer briefly seen in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones offers his wares to Obi-Wan Kenobi who, with the help of a Jedi mind trick, convinces the Balosar to head home and rethink his life in a humorous moment. While the death stick dealer’s real name is Elan Sel'Sabagno, his alias is possibly more humorous than his encount...

Introduced in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Therm Scissorpunch is a male Nephran who can be seen playing sabacc with Lando Calrissian and Han Solo. As a large and sapient crustacean with massive pincers, Therm Scissorpunch’s ridiculous name seems perhaps a bit too on-the-nose. Indeed, Star Warscanon lore establishes that Therm Scissorpunch is a notoriou...

Grand Admiral Thrawn is one of the most famous Star Wars villains outside of the films, having debuted as one of the antagonists of Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy. Thrawn was brought into the post-2014 canon by Star Wars Rebels and is set to make his live-action debut in the upcoming AhsokaTV series. Thrawn’s name, however, is significantly shortene...

A Clone Wars-era Padawan seen in the Legends continuity’s Star Wars: Clone Wars has the misfortune of being hunted by General Grievous during the Battle of Hypori. Having lost his master and all Republic forces to Grievous, he panics, resulting in him being gruesomely crushed to death. While the Padawan’s death is tragic and a prime example of the ...

The canon continuity’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars also has its fair share of oddly-named characters. In the season 3 episode “Supply Lines,” a Jedi Master and his Republic forces die fighting the Separatists in the early stages of the Battle of Ryloth. The Jedi Master’s name, Ima-Gun Di, is a pun on “I’m-a gonna die,” and is pronounced the same way....

Perhaps the most absurd name in the Star Wars canon continuity belongs to one of Darth Maul’s brothers: Savage Opress. Pronounced “suvojj oh-press,” the Sith-trained Nightbrother’s name is even lightly mocked in-universe, as shown in The Clone Warsepisode “Revenge,” when a bounty hunter mispronounces his name when viewing his bounty listing. As his...

Galen Marek is the protagonist of the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed multimedia project, though he typically goes by the codename Starkiller. During development, however, Starkiller was initially going to have a proper Darth title, as Vader’s apprentice. George Lucas himself suggested two names during a meeting, proposing a choice between “Darth In...

    • Din Grogu. Recently created Star Wars names can be silly too. In fact, one of the most important Star Wars characters from the Disney era now has one of the weirdest names in the franchise.
    • Max Rebo. Max Rebo is a Star Wars legend. The character originally appeared in Return of the Jedi as one of the musicians performing at Jabba’s palace.
    • Savage Opress. Savage Opress was not a subtle fighter, which makes sense considering that he had one of the least subtle Star Wars names. Similar to Ima-Gun Di, Savage Opress’ name told viewers everything they needed to know about Darth Maul’s brother.
    • Dexter Jettster. Any Star Wars name that rhymes belongs in the list of silliest Star Wars character names. Audiences are introduced to Dexter Jettster as “Dex” in Attack of the Clones, when Obi-Wan goes to Dex’s Dinner looking for information.
  3. Star Wars has a seemingly infinite amount of characters and aliens—some of which appear on screen for only seconds—and all of them require names to appease the nitpickiest of fans. It’s almost impossible to come up with that many titles without pulling some of them from unusual sources.

  4. Dec 12, 2019 · Slowen Lo? Elan Sleazebaggano? Yep, these are all real Star Wars characters. See the silliest ones here.
