  6. This is where I would start for an introduction to the geologic story behind some of the best-known volcanoes in the USA. It is a very readable, well-written text describing volcanoes within several national parks and monuments. I particularly enjoy the many photos (most taken by the authors) plus the maps that are included within each chapter.
