Shiprock is so large that you can actually see it in the distance! The formation is a site that is sacred to the Navajo so we only took photos from the road that goes near it. Worth the drive to see it even if the town of Shiprock (which you have to pass through) is a bit sketchy.

Shiprock is as sacred to the Navajos in 2021 as it has ever been. There is no hiking, camping, or climbing allowed on the peak or the rock formations that surround it. Driving on the dirt road that leads to Shiprock is also prohibited.
