One example can be seen when Maka is in the infirmary after fighting with Arachne Gorgon and the golem. Black☆Star appears cheerful and amused by Maka's helplessness, even drawing and autographing her face.
Black Star's character growth is a true highlight of the manga. There really isn't much comparison to be made between the anime since his character doesn't really change at all by the end. Whereas the manga gets to show off more facets to his character.
