Once again, FIFA 19 doesn’t bring anything groundbreaking to this year’s FIFA edition. However, EA has added a number of new features such as Active Touch, Dynamic Tactics, and Timed Finishing that has really helped to add a brand new technical layer to the series that it was previously lacking.
That's right, after a successful 10-year partnership with Pro Evolution Soccer, the UEFA Champions League finally makes a much-anticipated return to FIFA 19. Players can get hands-on with both the UCL and Europa League in Kick Off mode, Career Mode, and even the FIFA Ultimate Team mode.
The Active Touch system is an all-new system that revolutionizes the way the way you receive, strike, and move the ball at your feet, as it will now not only feel incredibly natural and fluid, but it will open up creative ways to utilize the ball like never before.
With the ability to put more personality into every touch, players can now use some of their favorite player's moves. Whether it’s the likes of Neymar’s famous trap, the infamous ‘disguise trap’ used by Toni Kroos to fool defenders into moving the wrong direction with a very subtle first touch. There is even a variety of new flick animations that allow players to use their head, chest, knees, and feet to flick the ball, change direction, or to simply confuse their opponents, just like Kylian Mbappe does in real-life.
Timing is key to this brand new feature in FIFA 19, as Timed Finishing is an all-new mechanic that adds a new layer of control that can potentially make any shot world class with just one extra press of a button. Timed Finishing is a way to add even more power and accuracy to your shots on goal, making them potentially unstoppable by simply timing your shot correctly.
While the general premise of shooting doesn’t change, by using Timed Finishing you are basically creating a risk vs. reward situation, as shooting too early could make your shot go slightly off target, costing you the goal.
Much like PES, FIFA too has suffered from poor tactical controls over the years. Thankfully though, that is all about to change in FIFA 19. With a completely re-imagined system, the all-new Dynamic Tactics will offer players an in-depth tactical customization option that is available both pre-match, as well as dynamic in-game adjustments simply by using the D-Pad.
No matter how small your changes or adjustments may be, witness first hand your team adjusting to your new tactics on the pitch. With a system that is promising to be perfectly balanced, players can watch their team adjust to any new changes on the fly, which is why analyzing your opponent’s current tactics has never been more important. As soon as you notice a change in their plan, you can quickly respond during a match to counter their new attack, as every attack has been balanced to ensure that there is an effective countermeasure.
With the ability to countermeasure game plans that can be switched fluidly throughout the match, players can even use a number of all-new sliders to tweak different aspects of your offensive and defensive approaches, making it possible to add finer details to your tactical plans.
Dynamic Tactics combines formations, mentalities, and both attacking and defensive play styles, into an all new system that allows you to completely customize your team’s setup.
New to FIFA 19, 50/50 Battles brings an all-new element to the fight for possession, as user reactions and player attributes will ultimately determine the outcome for winning any loose ball situations across the pitch. To make FIFA 19 feel as authentic as possible, Career Mode managers can now use a fourth substitute in extra time. This change comes as a number of real-life leagues and competitions have implemented the new rule.
