The main issue, though, is that C++ is a very difficult language. I just really wouldn't recommend starting there if you're learning on your own. Python is 10x easier to get started. Pygame is a great way to make simpler games and learn all of the important concepts. Then if you love it, and you really want to learn C++ next, go for it.

You can essentially learn Python and C++ in less time than C++ on it's own, since it avoids all the confusing mess that results from trying to learn manual memory management and basic programming at the same time.
