Chains/Memoria is a two part story and needs to be played in that order. I can't really go into why it needs to be played that way without giving too much of the plot away. But the plot of Memoria heavily depends on character development in Chains.

You don't have to, but you should. I picked up Chains of Satinav on the Summer Sale wanting to play it before Memoria and I don't regret it.

Mar 4, 2021 · Chains of Satinav and Memoria were both published under The Dark Eye banner, and the two titles are among the more well-received point-and-click adventure games of the last 10 years, so it’s easy to imagine why Daedalic would port both titles to modern consoles despite their age and an overall lack of remastering or updating.
