Jan 5, 2019 · Do not stay in La Spezia unless you want a second rated town with a cruise ship problem. Stay in one of the five towns, cinque terre. My favorites are Manarola or Vernazza, but maybe they are too small for you. Monterosso, like mentioned by others, might fit the bill. Posted by Roberto da Firenze ⚜.

We have stayed in Levanto twice and walked and trained into the CT and also to villages in the opposite direction e.g. Bonassola and into the interior.
- La Spezia used to be a naval base and still has a gritty feel in parts. Levanto is a pretty seaside town.

- The " Cinque Terre Express" runs between La Spezia and Levanto, and costs €4 for any journey. I don't know about the cost of boats.

See the coastline from the sea
Take a boat with Navigazione Golfo dei Poeti to see Cinque Terre's extraordinary landscape from the sea. It gives you an idea of the remoteness of the place – there wasn't a road here until the 1960s – and of how the locals have sculpted terraces from the sheer cliffs, making an uninhabitable landscape productive. Docking at the villages' tiny harbors is a memorable experience, and you can go onwards to La Spezia or (my pick) Levanto.
Walk the Via dell'Amore
Cinque Terre's most famous walk has always been the Via dell'Amore – the flat, accessible, 1km (half-mile) path between Riomaggiore and Manarola. Closed since 2012 due to landslide damage, it's due to reopen in July 2024 for guided tours only. I got a sneak peek last yearand was impressed – the tours explain the rich history of the area and make you look beyond those color-popping houses.

Weather changes fast on the Liguria coast, and even in the hottest summer months, you'll probably need a jacket or sweater at night – as well as if you go out on a boat during the day.
Don't underestimate how challenging the villages can be for those with mobility problems. Even if you're not planning to hike, Manarola and Riomaggiore are extremely steep. Be aware of that when you book your accommodation, too – there are limited porter services, and you should be prepared to cart your luggage up the cliffside.
Village hop without counting the cost. The card includes access to all the hiking trails and allows you onto the bus routes to villages higher up on the cliffs. The proceeds go to the national park.
5. Monterosso. If you’re going to stay here, you’ve got to choose one. But which Cinque Terre town is the best Cinque Terre town? Well, considering I’ve been living in the southernmost village for the last 15 years, you might think my quick answer would be Riomaggiore. I did decide to make it my own home, after all.

Levanto is a delightful little town, with all possible services you might need, It is located just 10 minutes away by train from Monterosso, but you can actually hike to Monterosso and the 5Terre from there on trails that are as scenic as those located inside the National Park.
Wondering which location, Levanto or La Spezia, we should choose for our 2 night stay to visit Cinque Terre in regards to ease in getting to train station and boat docks. . Both towns have several b&Bs to choose from so I'm looking for some help in picking the best location to base ourselves for sightseeing in Cinque Ter
Dec 2, 2020 · Riomaggiore is the best town in Cinque Terre for: young visitors, visitors interested in a lively, bigger center. Riomaggiore is, often, the cheapest town to stay in Cinque Terre. If budget is a concern, you can also stay in Levanto or Porto Venere, pretty towns close to Cinque Terre and with a similar feel albeit not part of the ‘famous 5’.
