Colossians 3:1–4 contains much that can help us stay focused on Christ: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
- Perfect Peace. Firstly, when Jesus remains your focus, your heart is filled with perfect peace. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
- True Unity. Secondly, when Jesus remains your focus, you’ll experience true unity with fellow believers. Focused on the Lord, you won’t become distracted by the winds and waves of this carnal world.
- Spiritual Stability. Thirdly, when Jesus remains your focus, you will be firmly established. You won’t be moved by every opinion and trend. You’ll abide faithfully, steadfastly.
- Effectiveness. Finally, when Jesus remains your focus, you remain effective. For the past several weeks, I have been emphasizing this truth: “Jesus is still the answer, and the gospel is still the mission.”
Keeping focus on Christ means that we’re purposefully fading out everything that pulls us away from connecting with Him. It’s a disciplined lifestyle of choosing to see every blessing and struggle through the lens of Christ.

To walk in God’s will, Jesus Christ must always be the central focus in our personal and corporate lives. This principle comes from Paul’s letter to the Colossians that describes the centrality of Christ: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation . . . .
