Poltár is a town and municipality in the Poltár District in the Banská Bystrica Region of Slovakia. Geography. The town is located in the Southern Slovak basin near the river Ipeľ, south of the Revúcka Hills, which is part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, around 18 km (11.18 mi) from Lučenec. History.
Poltár leží na úpätí Slovenského rudohoria na severovýchode Lučenskej kotliny v asymetrickej doline Poltarice. Rovinný chotár tvoria mladšie treťohorné uloženiny, štrky, piesky, íly poltárskej formácie a veporské kryštalinikum, v doline tokov riečne uloženiny vo formáte nív a terás.
