Feb 14, 2020 · The 11th century saw the first time that there was a church mentioned as being in Northiam, East Sussex but it is more than likely that there was an earlier church on this ridge-top location. It appears that the church was granted by Robert Eu, brother of William the Conqueror, to St Mary-in-the-Castle at Hastings (along with the churches at Peasmarsh and Beckley).
