Jan 26, 2020 · The scene is all the prettier as the mishmash of houses are reflected in the river and seem to jostle for position on the waterfront. At the eastern end is the Altes Schalchthaus (Old Slaughterhouse), partially built over the water and with a sculpture of a cow above its portal.
The historic seat of the municipality on the river between two bridges is the absolute symbol of Bamberg. The frescoed palace on one side, the arch with the gray stone statues, the yellow half-timbered house on the other. A unique mix of architectural styles for a unique place in the world.

It consists of steep-sloped, colourful houses with flower-box windows and little gardens squashed together. These cute half-timbered buildings can be dated back to the medieval ages and have been lovingly preserved through the centuries.
