Then by the end we are looking for a reason for Black to save himself from White. In fact, as the name suggests we have the concept of taking a ride on the sunset, White to ride off into the sunset leaving behind him the Christian optimism (Black). Now this is pretty complex, there really is no clear protagonist-antagonist at the end either.
The Sunset Limited (2011) Sam Jackson as a religious man and Tommy Lee Jones as a suicidal professor have philosophical discussions in a room. That's the movie, and it's fantastic. More engaging than a movie about 2 men in a room talking has any right to be. Check it out if you haven't.
