The first time I listened to this disc, a housefly hatched in error on a warm December day stole into my listening room and flitted noisily through the window shades. At first, I thought the intrusion part and parcel of the music, only isolating the sound as extraneous during The Silver Ball. Even after my discovery, the housefly’s mad rovings inte...

The pearl is an album that needs an aesthetic approach of the listener, rather than dedication or time for its appreciation. You can still listen to it while reading or before bedtime and will still be relaxing. However, with a careful listen, the album truly unravels its dreamlike effects.
May 18, 2015 · Acting in some respects as the understandable counterpart to Ambient 2, with the same sense of hushed, ethereal beauty the partnership brought forth on that album, The Pearl is so ridiculously good it instantly shows up much of the mainstream new age as the gloopy schlock that it often is.

You get Harold Budd's and Brian Eno's The Pearl, their 1984 collaborative contribution that really shows just how on top of it both of these artists were at the time. One thing about this project I find absolutely incredible is that this was released in the same year The Moon and The Melodies came out, which is also one of my favorite projects of all time.

The Pearl just might be my favorite Eno ambient release (aside from the Fripp & Eno release Evening Star). It is smooth and textured, a nice mix of piano and white noise, perfect for background music or for intent listening.
