'Magnificent Century') is a Turkish historical drama series. Written by Meral Okay and Yılmaz Şahin, it is based on the life of Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, the longest-reigning Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, and his wife Hürrem Sultan, a slave girl who became the first Ottoman Haseki Sultan. [2] .
I thought about watching a show like the Magnificent Century but I have heard from people that the show tends to beautify the era and glorify the historical characters. Has anyone here watched it and can confirm this criticism?
- Dirilis: Ertugrul (2014-2019) When Diliris: Ertugrul was released originally in 2014, it would introduce many more fans around the world to the wonders of Turkish television, especially in the historical drama genre.
- Saladin: The Conquerer of Jerusalem (2023) In the 2023 release, Saladin: The Conquerer of Jerusalem, a unique process has led to quite an incredible television show.
- The Club (2021-2023) Released in 2021, The Club’s main character is in quite a predicament. Set in 1950s Istanbul, Rana is a Jewish woman who has to figure out what to do next.
- Destan. While many Turkish historical dramas take place in the Ottoman Empire or the period after it, Destan ventures further back to before Islam was introduced into Turkey.
At first glance it appeared this would be a good series to watch. However, after 5 episodes it has become very boring. How many times are we going to see the same situations played out between the Sultan and his favorite concubine, Alexandra.
My two cents about Kosem. I have just stumbled upon this sub and finished Kosem recently. Here's my thoughts on Muhtesem Yuzyil Kosem Sultan. As a Turk, I'm following the series & production for years and have knowledge about almost everything. Forgive my english and ask anything so i can explain.
Yup 139 episodes in only 4 years is remarkable. I’m assuming they took breaks between seasons but much of it was aired weekly on Television. If you think 139 episodes is a lot, there is another ~58 episodes on Magnificent Century: Kösem, which takes place around 30 years after Suleiman’s death.
