Confession and Absolution : The forms of confession in the Order of Holy Communion and Morning and Evening Prayer in The Book of Common Prayer may be used on any occasion. These or one of the forms in the services in Common Worship should normally be used.
The note at the top of page 133 in Common Worship indicates that the Kyries may replace any form of confession, provided that the sentences inserted between the petitions are of a penitential character. When we are given absolution in the sacrament of reconciliation (confession) we are truly forgiven by God Himself. What Happens? The penitent (person coming to confession) is invited to tell the priest of their sins, in this way opening themselves to receive God’s forgiveness.
