Apr 18, 2024 · The Complete French Grammar Course is an absolute must-have for anyone looking to learn French or brush up on their skills. The variety of exercises keeps things interesting and the audios and videos make it feel like you’re actually in France.
I know exactly what you mean- the book is rather brief as it essentially tries to condense every element of French language into one book. I will definitely get my hands on a grammaire progressive A1 level to really nail the foundations.
Sep 21, 2023 · Review of the best French grammar books for self-study. Top pics include Practice Makes Perfect: Complete French Grammar and French Grammar for Beginners.
In my opinion, use Grammaire Progressive du Francais. It's fully in French, from A1.1 to C2. If you actually want to improve, you should already start reading and writing in French. Experience and practice is key. Also, the formula of information on the left side and exercises on the right side is very effective. The exercises are very helpful.

6. La Grammaire des Premiers Temps
I have included the beginner’s version of this book above, but once you complete all the exercises and understand all the examples, I suggest you move onto this level if you have found the beginner’s level book useful. Everything about the A1-A2 book still stands for this level. It includes a CD that allows you to practice both oral and listening skills while also helping to internalize more complex grammar rules that are more suitable for the level which you are at now. And you can continue...
7. French Grammar in Context
As a beginner, you can speak French by translating sentences from English. In fact, to start with, there’s not really any other way. But, as you progress in your language learning, you need to start thinking in French, which sometimes means that you need to say things in ways that would sound weird if they were said in English or your native language. This book is excellent at allowing you to understand how the grammar rules you’re learning fit into the greater perspective of the language. It...
9. Le Bon Usage
Any advanced French learner will probably have heard of Le Bon Usage. It is a book of 1,600 pages with many examples from French literature throughout the centuries. I don’t think anyone can deny it’s very comprehensive. It is also well-known by French native speakers as many schools in France use this book to teach French grammar to their younger pupils. This is ideal for advanced learners simply because it provides great depth in all necessary grammar points. You must already be familiar wi...
