Like "Red Rock West", "Black Day Blue Night" is a twisted modern noir, with plenty of guitar strums further enhancing some similarity between the two films. There is ample nudity, gorgeous desert locations, and a story that under close scrutiny, doesn't always make a whole lot of sense.
This moody, desert crime saga compares favorably to Red Rock West for much of the runtime. It ultimately overplays its hand and loses momentum late via a couple improbable plot twists and a questionable attempt at irony. Still, it’s a decent ride-along road movie that’s worth a look for genre fans.

If you enjoyed Red Rock West, check out The Last Seduction and Kill Me Again, also directed by John Dahl. There was a revival for film noir in the 90s so there's a lot of great stuff to look for. China Moon with Ed Harris is excellent.
