Bottom Line: If you have the stomach for the theme, let alone the complex mechanics, then you’ll be enjoying excellent game design and economic strategy with Archipelago. Feb 23, 2021 · Archipelago can be a fun bantering game. It can also be a slog after too many hours. Sometimes it's too short to be satisfactory. Some other times it brings confrontation and moves that will be remembered for a long time after the game is gone.
Archipelago is both weird and wonderful in that the beginning of the game is wide open. You have your boat, a couple of dudes, a bit of money and the wide ocean of possibilities around you - go wild!
Good to see some Archipelago love around here. It's a pretty heavy game, which I think is one of the reasons we don't see it brought up quite so much. But it is beautiful, and it has the best reflection of an actual economy I've ever seen in a game.
