Totally agree. A Monster Calls is emotionally poignant without completely destroying you, which makes it a great cinematic teaching tool for younger audiences. It's in its very nature therapeutic. Contrast this to something like Bridge to Terabithia (both movie and book), which absolutely fucks you up out of left field without remorse.
A Monster Calls is actually one of my favorite movies as well. Even though it is a kids movie it is very mature in theme and the acting is incredible.
