I really don't think Yakuza and Shenmue are comparable at all. They're fundamentally different. The only real overlap is that they had some same team members and they're both third person adventures, and are set in real world Eastern locations.

Yakuza always keeps the same gameplay elements. It’s always a beat em up. Shenmue is a Martial arts sim, life sim, forklift sim, etc. But back to the original point - Shenmue, to me, is less tedious and easier and less jarring of an experience.

Shenmue is the dad of Yakuza, without it there would be no Yakuza, or Yakuza would be pretty different to what it is nowadays. Yakuza is the spiritual successor of Shenmue. Shenmue is not like Yakuza, which is packed full of action, the story of shenmue is more slow paced, with beautiful moments, its more story focus.
