'The Bible') is a 1966 religious epic film produced by Dino De Laurentiis and directed by John Huston. It recounts the first 22 chapters of the Biblical Book of Genesis , covering the stories from The Creation and Adam and Eve to the binding of Isaac .
Like the summary says, besides Abraham’s “first impression”, the movie looks absolutely biblically accurate. The movie balances this out with quite a few scenes of torment and talking to himself that Abraham does on the way to the mountain—but he is resolved to do God’s bidding.

Big stars pop in for brief appearances, including Richard Harris (Cain), George C. Scott (Abraham), Ava Gardner (Sarah) and Huston himself (Noah). At 174 minutes, the film is awfully long. Its over-bearing message is hard to tolerate, and quite often the pacing is so slow that the film grinds to a boring standstill.
Oct 3, 2024 · It is not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination and the lulls detract from the good parts. It may be too long, the Abraham story may be episodic, and it may be an advantage to know the book of Genesis first.
